Details

The Atago PEN-Urine S.G. is a quick, accurate way to check hydration at work. It measures the specific gravity of a urine sample by its refractive index, the same method used in clinical laboratories, and shows the reading on its display in 2 seconds. There is nothing to mix and no strips to read by eye. Press START, dip the tip into the sample (or touch it to a small sample), read the result and rinse the tip under running water. It suits site medics, health monitoring programmes and AOD collection points, particularly through the hot months. Why use the PEN-Urine S.G. • Result in 2 seconds, shown on a digital display. • Dip or touch measurement, so it works with a full cup or just a few drops. • Rinse clean under the tap: the unit is IP65 water resistant and the prism head is IP67. • Automatic temperature compensation, so readings stay accurate whatever the temperature of the room. • External Light Interference (ELI) warning: if bright light could upset a reading, the display tells you to shade the tip and measure again. • Set to zero with plain tap or distilled water. No calibration solutions to buy. • Slim, one-handed design that runs on a single AAA battery for about 8,000 measurements. How to use • Each day, set the zero: press START, submerge the tip in clean water and press ZERO until 0000 stops blinking. • Collect a fresh urine sample in a clean container and let it reach room temperature. • Press START and dip the tip into the sample within 10 seconds, or dip first and then press START. • Read the result after 2 seconds, then rinse the tip under running water and wipe it dry. Always follow the full instructions supplied with the instrument. Reading the result Urine S.G. What it suggests 1.000 to 1.010 Below the normal range. Possible excess fluid intake 1.010 to 1.020 Within the normal range. No action needed 1.020 to 1.030 Above the normal range. Onset of dehydration: drink more and keep monitoring 1.030 to 1.035 Dehydrated: drink more now and rest in a cool, shaded area Above 1.035 Severely dehydrated: seek medical attention This table is a basic guide only. If in doubt, seek medical advice. Specifications Model PEN-Urine S.G. (Atago Cat. No. It measures how concentrated a urine sample is, which shows hydration. Use it alongside a urine drug test if you need both. Does it need calibrating? Set the zero with water at the start of each day. A calibration certificate is available on request: call us on 1300 79 70 30. PEN or PAL-10S? Both read urine specific gravity. The PEN dips straight into a sample cup; the Pocket PAL-10S takes a few drops on its sample stage and can send its last 100 results to a phone or PC.
